Immunisation & Vaccination
As the Glenroy Road Clinic is committed to preventative care, we provide immunisation services for our patients. This includes vaccinations for travel, seasonal (flu), childhood and employment.
Appointments must be made in advance for Child and Travel Immunisation with the Immunisation Nurse. These are available on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday during normal business hours.
The clinic has a limited supply of vaccinations on-site, mostly for seasonal and childhood immunisations. In the instance that the clinic does not have the required vaccination on-site, the doctor will write a prescription for the appropriate vaccines so that the patient can purchase it from the pharmacy and have it administered at the clinic if they choose.
Seasonal vaccines: Influenza (flu) vaccine
The influenza vaccine is offered each year and it is usually recommended that you are immunised during autumn, before the influenza outbreak during winter.
The vaccine is free for people aged 65 and over and for those who have a chronic illness. If you are unsure about whether you qualify for the Government-funded influenza vaccination program, please consult with your doctor.
The flu vaccine is also available at the clinic for those who do not fall under this category but still wish to be immunised. The cost is $15 per vaccine as long as stock is available.
No appointment is necessary for the flu vaccine. Prior to all immunisations, patients must consult with their doctor in order to comply with legal and safe administration requirements. Following the consultation, either a doctor or a qualified immunisation nurse will administer the vaccine.
Note: Some brands of influenza vaccines are not recommended for children under the age of 5. Please speak to your doctor prior to any vaccine purchase.
Child immunisation appointments can be made on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday with our qualified child immunisation nurse, Rick Mateo.
To check whether your child is due for immunisation, please call the clinic during business hours. Otherwise you can view this information on the National Immunisation Program schedule
Please bring your child’s immunisation book to each appointment.
For patients with a valid Medicare card, the cost of the vaccines is covered by the National Immunisation Program and the administration fee is bulkbilled.
If your child does not have a Medicare card and is not eligible for the National Immunisation Program, there are fees for consultation, administration of the vaccine and each individual vaccine. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to enquire about the fees prior to the immunisation appointment.
